Jake is the main character of TMF and is still part of the friend group when we start the series. He’s seen being bullied for his love of singing and thus in order to avoid being bullied, he joins a group of bullies. Like most people in the fandom I've kind of interpreted his complacency and subsequent participation in his friends' bullying as a form of either stealthing or masking. Which is to say transmasculine autistic Jake real. I think his story of being pressured into a position you don’t belong to and then being accepted by a different group is not only touching in itself but also… there's a lot of transmasc and/or autistic TMF fans, like guys let's not kid ourselves.
Drew I KNOW YOU GOT DADDY ISSUES!!!!! Drew is the self appointed leader of the Dromies and is quite possibly the cruelest out of the group. Well… as cruel as a disney channel-esque bully can be. He’s the first person to take Jake under his wing and offer him protection, he guides the group to call the music club names every time they appear. Not to mention every time he “discreetly” flexes his wealth. Unlike many people in the fandom, I actually don’t think his arrogance stems from a bad homelife? Well, ok. It's not great of course, I still believe his father is emotionally detached from him. It’s just, I think he was promised the world as a child and thus feels detached from his classmates his age and maybe doesn’t understand empathy? If that makes any sense. Yeah this guys not my favorite.
Henry OH MY GLOB MY SON <333 Henry is the “comic relief” tagging along with the bullies. Despite having “nerdy” interests like anime and cosplaying, he’s part of the bullies because… he also laughs at the music club I guess? Ok real talk, I’ve seen some interpretations saying that Henry’s goofy demeanor is just a front because “Well Henry’s so bullyable, so he can’t be a bully!!!” And while I personally agree with this theory, I do still think his cruelty is subdued in comparison to the group.
Liam Liam is actually a beautiful Romanian woman trapped in the body of a teenage boy and I have no evidence to support that other than “trust me bro.” Ok so actually, Liam in the series is portrayed as the (for lack of a better term) pervert? It feels wrong to call him that since he’s a 16 yr old boy but,,, I lack the vocabulary to describe him otherwise? Many of his lines revolve around girls, his first line in the series is about “Stacy’s Mom” (the character in TMF canon, not the song.) and he even makes a comment about Jake being close with their teacher. I personally interpreted this as him projecting. He finds femininity beautiful but because he’s a TOTALLY CISHET NO HOMO BRO dude he can’t just come out and say “hey being a girl seems cool.” That’s my reasoning for why I portray him as transfem and use she/her pronouns with Liam. Hey can you tell who my favorite is yet?
The Dromies (a portmanteau of Drew and homies) are the main antagonists of the webseries The Music Freaks. Primarily consisting of Drew, Henry and Liam (as well as the main character Jake because he’s friends with them at the start of the series.) The Dromies are stereotypical bully archetypes who torment the music club.
I'll be honest, at first when I began the series I REALLY hated them. Mostly because they were villans so no duh I hate them. But I think the more I've been in the fandom I've actually grown to really like them (obviously). Partially because they're funny but also because I find it facinating that they are so often woobified/villified with usually nothing in between. Or maybe I'm overthinking about gacha characters idk.
